How you set the rules
You control how Vantio behaves using policy as code. Instead of clicking through dashboards to set limits, you define your rules in configuration files that live right alongside your application code. This means you can manage your agent boundaries using the same GitOps workflows you already use for your infrastructure.
When you deploy your application, Gate reads these configuration files to understand exactly what your agents are allowed to do. If an agent tries to make an API call or spend money outside those bounds, Gate applies destination controls, redaction, and spend limits on that path. If you are running Phantom Engine, it moves enforcement below the application path on Linux you enroll so unauthorized work can still be refused when the wrap is skipped.

Common questions
- How do I know when Gate blocked something, stripped sensitive details, or hit a spend limit?
- Every live decision is written to the enforce trail. Operators see it on the existing enforce view and the quieter Approvals review list. You can also set an optional webhook on the control plane. There is not a separate alert dashboard.
- How is Phantom Engine installed?
- We install Phantom Engine on Linux you enroll. Standalone hosts get a Linux daemon. Kubernetes Helm is a documented path we have proven in our testing. You pick which workloads to protect, start in watch-only mode, and turn on blocking when your team is ready. You can see protection state on that host. The enforce plane on that host ships with this purchase. A completed install on infrastructure Vantio does not operate is still Open.
- Where do Phantom Engine logs live, and what about data residency?
- On infrastructure you own — on-prem or in your VPC. Optics records stay on the wrapped machine. Phantom Engine evidence stays on the hosts you enroll. We do not warehouse prompts or completions. We have not published a customer CPU-overhead figure; ask sales for a measured walkthrough on your nodes.
- How do you keep Optics, Gate, and Phantom Engine true after install?
- Continuous Assurance is how Optics, Gate, and Phantom Engine stay true after install. It detects drift, heals what it can, checks posture, and exports evidence while agents keep working.
- Does Optics read my prompts or conversations?
- No. Optics records where an agent connects — host, size, process, and time — and does not store prompts or completions.
- What is the difference between Optics, Gate, and Phantom Engine?
- Optics observes supported agent traffic without storing prompts or completions. Gate enforces destination, sensitive-data, and spending policies on the wrap you already run. Phantom Engine protects enrolled Linux hosts when that wrap is skipped. Enterprise adds durable evidence, audit records, and dual-control on top of Phantom Engine. Continuous Assurance is how Optics, Gate, and Phantom Engine stay true after install.
- How do I install Optics?
- Start on /docs. On Node, install with npm i -g @vantio/cli and wrap with vantio run --summary node agent.js. Python support requires vantio-agent-sdk. Follow the current Python SDK example and verify that a supported outbound event appears before relying on the coverage state. vantio doctor checks the install. vantio coverage --local names attached, idle, outside, and degraded, and lists paths this wrap does not cover. Idle is valid. vantio leave stops the wrap. No account required.
- How is Gate installed?
- The $499 Gate product uses a Vantio-hosted control plane. You wrap the same agent process as Optics; policy, ingest, and the dashboard live with Vantio, and enforcement runs in that wrap. Gate trials are currently provisioned through the Vantio team. On a Phantom Engine node, Gate runs on-prem inside that purchase — a Helm DaemonSet or a Linux daemon — and does not stack the $499 hosted invoice.
- When do I need Gate instead of Optics alone?
- When you need destination, redaction, size, or spend rules to act on the supported application path. Gate is $499 per month after a 14-day trial. Gate trials are currently provisioned through the Vantio team.
- When do I need Phantom Engine?
- When you need runtime protection on Linux you own. That purchase is $799 per enrolled Linux node. Phantom Engine moves enforcement below the application path on enrolled hosts. Talk to sales at /contact?intent=sales. Customer-hosted today.
- What happens when something needs a person?
- Approvals that need a person wait for a named human. Credits, legal risk, and flipping Phantom Engine protection off stay with a person. We do not offer a round-the-clock human SLA today.
- Do you hold SOC 2 or FedRAMP today?
- No. Framework mapping and evidence support an assessment. Formal certifications are a separate program. Detail lives on /compliance.
- How do you handle privacy?
- Optics is built so prompts and completions are not stored. Website contact and the support assistant are used to answer you, run the business, and learn what customers want — not to train public foundation models. Full text on /privacy and /terms.
- I already run a pilot. Where is my ticket?
- Sign in at /portal with the invite your Vantio contact gave you, then open Support. That path is /portal/support.
- What does Enterprise add?
- Enterprise adds durable, correlated evidence, audit records, and dual-control workflows on top of Phantom Engine. It helps security, risk, and compliance teams show how agent controls were configured, applied, and reviewed. Formal certifications and authorizations remain separate programs. Talk to sales.
- What is Vantio?
- Vantio is the infrastructure control layer for autonomous AI. Optics observes supported agent traffic. Gate enforces policy on the application path. Phantom Engine controls enrolled Linux hosts when that path is bypassed. Enterprise adds governance and evidence. Continuous Assurance verifies the chain. Let AI agents act. Keep control of the systems they use. Vantio records security and connection metadata, not prompts or completions.
- Does Vantio make robot motors or the safety loop safe?
- No. If you build robotics at a university lab — including CMU — or plan to put planners into households to do general chores, Vantio still only protects the Linux hosts those planners run on: lab boxes, fleet servers, and companion computers. We do not make the robot. Optics shows where those agents connect, without storing their private conversations. Gate applies the rules you set. Phantom Engine protects the Linux machine you enroll. - Does Vantio certify vehicle safety-critical control?

- Does Vantio fly the drone or own the flight-safety envelope?

- What is the Stranger Host Standard, and is it complete?
- The Stranger Host Standard is an Open external acceptance test: a qualified Linux customer completes Optics, Gate, and Phantom Engine using public docs and the customer package, with no Vantio SSH. Company-operated hosts are ineligible. A completed pass has not been recorded. No design partners are enrolled. The install walk is on /docs/install.
- What is the Stranger Host Standard?
- It is an Open external acceptance test for installing Optics, Gate, and Phantom Engine on a Linux host Vantio does not operate, using public docs and the customer package, with no Vantio SSH. Company-operated hosts are ineligible. A completed pass has not been recorded.
- How do I start with Vantio?
- Start free with Optics at vantio.ai/start. Gate trials are currently provisioned through the Vantio team via /contact?intent=gate-trial. Phantom Engine is $799 per enrolled Linux node via /contact?intent=sales. Enterprise governance is talk to sales.
- Do you have design partners?
- The design-partner program is published. Apply at vantio.ai/start/design-partner. The term-limited program rate is $600 per governed node per month for Control plus Govern on Linux you enroll. Review is required. No design partners are enrolled yet.
- Is Gate checkout live?
- Gate trials are currently provisioned through the Vantio team. Public list is $499 per month after a 14-day trial.
- Does Vantio certify medical devices or hold HIPAA?
- No. Vantio does not certify medical-device safety or clinical efficacy, and holds no certifications today. We protect the general-purpose Linux compute where AI agents and data pipelines run. Optics does not store prompts or completions. Framework mapping supports assessment readiness — it is not sold as a certification.
